The largest Russian private company in the field of power supply and gas distribution industry established in December 2002.
The main activities of IES holding are:
- power generation;
- development of generating facilities;
- energy trading;
- retail heat and power distribution.
IES manages and holds strategic/majority interest in four Russian territorial generating companies (TGCs):
- TGC-5 (Kirov region, republic of Mariy El, republics of Chuvashia and Udmurtia)
- TGC-6 (Nizhni Novgorod, Vladimir, Ivanovo and Penza regions, republic of Mordovia)
- TGC-7 – VoTGC (Samarа, Saratov, Ulianovsk and Orenburg regions)
- TGC-9 (republic of Komi, Perm territory and Sverdlovsk region)
The company is the leader in established power supply stations in Russia (67,7 GCal/h) and is the leading national heat producer. IES ranks fifth largest in terms of installed capacity among power supply companies of Russia (15 767 MW). In 2009 the heat and power plants of IES Holding produced 63,3 billion kWh of power and 118,6 million GCal of heat.

Over 10 million individuals and 61,8 thousand legal entities are IES clients.
Gas distribution assets of the company are situated in 7 subjects of the Russian Federation and 3 regions of Ukraine. In 2009 the volume of natural gas transportation by the Russian and Ukrainian entities of IES Holding (GASEX) amounted to 21,236 billion cubic meters. Total amount of consumers made up to 21 thousand industrial companies and over 4 million individuals.
IES Holding geography involves 22 regions of Russia.
Several divisions of activities were established on the basis of IES active assets.
Generating capacities of TGC-9 and TGC-5 entered Ural Generation division, TGC-6 and TGC-7 joined accordingly Centre Generation and Volga Generation divisions. Trading division functions include wholesales on the Russian energy and power market. Power sales and gas distribution assets of IES Holding were included into Retail division.
